This encaustic bowl begins with a papier-mâché base, and is then constructed with beeswax, damar resin, paint, inks and assorted inclusions. Treat this creation as you would any fine craft piece. It is not intended to be used for culinary purposes. Store at normal room temperatures. Avoid direct sunlight and temperature extremes as wax will melt at 150F/65C. During the first 6-12 months, as the wax cures, an encaustic surface may develop a dusty effect called "bloom." This may be buffed away with a soft, lint-free cloth. If the original sheen becomes dull over time it can be brought back by this same buffing process.
