Joane Moran grew up in North Vancouver and now resides in Cobble Hill, British Columbia. She is inspired by her natural Vancouver Island west coast surroundings and, from an early age, always had an interest in drawing and colour. When Joane was twelve, she had the opportunity for private oil-painting lessons. It was then that she began to learn and appreciate art. Strong strokes of colour and contrast are the qualities of Joane’s work. She defines herself as a realist painter, with a contemporary edge. But what makes Joane’s work stand out is her capture of a moment— whether the vibrant light seen through an abundance of flower blossoms, the crashing of waves on the coast, a sunset over the Cowichan Valley, or the likenesses achieved in her pet portraits. When Joane is not painting, you can find her in her garden—a place that inspires her and is obvious in her floral art. Joane is a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, a national organization established eighty years ago by Canadian Group of Seven artist, Lauren Harris. Acceptance into the Federation is achieved through a formal juried process to ensure standards of technical competence and artistic excellence are met across its membership. Joane is an Associate (AFCA) member, whose work meets established standards and criteria at a Signature level. Joane enjoys showing her work and meeting new people, including participating in group shows, charity benefits and invitational events. Her work is held in many private and corporate collections.
